Can I change the rear break system from drum to disk?

    20/02/2014 12:30

I really don't trust the drum system brake and I always think about its inefficiency.
When I bought the car, the rear brake didn't pass the test as one wheel wasn't braking enough. I resolved the problem with a service visit (60EUR) only for cleaning both drums.
And also the handbrake it's not working as it should.
Is there a way to change the drums with disks? I know that Clio RS has disks, but is there someone that made this change? Is it possible? There are other Clios with disks on the rear break?

octav - You don't need to look only for an RS. You can also look for a Clio 1.6 16V or 1.5 dci 100 BHP, both have rear brake disks.

octav - You don't need to change the full rear end, only the brake disks and caliper with the brake hoses and hand-brake cable. You also need to check what type of ABS system you have to be compatible with your drum-brakes.

Steph - @octav: All the 1.6 16V have rear brakes on disks? I'm pretty sure I saw a 1.6 that didn't had. I'll try to find more infos on that. Thanks!

Anton - What country are you from? I'm sure you can find some second hand parts from RS.

Anton - I think the easiest way is to change the rear brake system with one from Clio RS. Actually, not only the disks and caliper but also the axle. I know users that installed RS brake system on non RS version.
